• VLAC (VLaams ACademisch Centrum) is as the Flemish Academic Centre for Science and the Arts an IAS (Institute for Advanced Study) organized by the KVAB (Koninklijke Vlaamse Academie van België), the Royal Flemish Academy.

VLAC is member of NetIAS, the European network of IAS centres.

VLAC is situated in the Academy Palace (Paleis der Academiën) next to the Royal Palace in Brussels.

Each year, the Academy awards a limited number of fellowships to foreign authors and researchers for collaborative residential projects with Flemish colleagues.

VLAC was initiated by the Academy (at request of the Flemish government) in 1999 and first fellows arrived in 2000. In 2010 VLAC celebrated its double lustrum with a scientific conference on VISION AND MATERIAL.

In 2012 VLAC also takes part with its Brussels centre in EURIAS, the newly developed EU supported fellowship programme for a 10 month stay at one of the 14 European participating institutions.

    • Important news

Due to new government rules regarding the financing of Academy projects the number of available fellowships is reduced and currently there are no further regular VLAC residencies awarded. Prospective candidates should consider participation in the international EURIAS-competition for fellowships (www.eurias-fp.eu).
